What is the meaning of “When the best leader’s work is done the people say, ‘We did it ourselves.’

Being a leader is not an easy job. It comes with so many limitations and boundaries and demands quick response and continuous new creativity. A group often carries people of all ages and intellectualism. Making all of them agreeing to do something that you want is quite a job. Moreover, tackling a problem that you have identified is more exciting than someone giving it to you and asking you to solve it. Excitement of an exciting job dies when you are asked to do it by someone else.

There comes the magic of being a passive leader. It is an art to stay in the background; letting your group do all the work while you silently and secretly guide them. You put the ideas in their head making them think they are their own. In short, you do the work behind the curtain and they take the credit.
